As the weather gets warmer it’s vital that we make sure all of the children are aware of the importance of keeping safe in the sun! We carried out an experiment this morning about the effectiveness of suncream. We asked the children why they wear suncream and their responses were great, including “because it’s sunny outside” and “so you don’t burn yourself”.
We made a suncream handprint on some paper and left it in the sunshine while we were playing. After a little while the children noticed that the paper had started to change colour. The handprint almost disappeared but they could still see the dark colour left behind around it. We explained to them that the suncream protected the paper from changing colour. We also asked the children to show us how they apply their own suncream (with supervision!) and talked about how important it is to make sure it’s put on properly so that we’re protected like the handprint!
Lots of love as always!
