Encouraging Independence!

Happy Sunday everyone, we hope you’ve all been staying safe and enjoying the beautiful sunshine as much as you can!

At Leigh’s Nurseries we encourage independence within each and every child every single day that they’re in our care. This can be promoted and supported through anything from them getting dressed all by themselves, to self serving and helping with cooking different meals and snacks.

During your child’s time here in nursery we offer a wide range of activities and resources that support this, a particular favourite being baking! They absolutely love getting stuck in making lots of different yummy creations – the best bit being when they can get eat what they’ve made at the end. In every room within each nursery we have a ‘Home Corner’ which is treasured by every child. In there you’ll find resources such as clothing (including scarves and hats), kitchen equipment (cutlery, jugs, measuring tools etc.)  which again encourages them to learn how to complete everyday tasks independently! It also enhances fine motor skills massively which is so lovely to observe.

For all of our families, we really recommend setting up a Home Corner in a small space in your homes (that isn’t in your child’s bedroom). Sit back and watch the creativity unfold as your child explores lots of practical life activities that they will have seen at nursery or in your own home!
