Recently the children have loved learning about hibernation. We looked at what types of animals hibernate, when they do it and why. Watching videos on the tablet and looking at pictures really helped increase the children’s understanding of the subject.
The children showed great interest by asking lots of questions and talking about it amongst their friends. We then continued to do lots of activities surrounding it such as hibernation yoga and making our own foxes and bird feeders. We then made our very own hedgehog homes for the local wildlife around our area which was so much fun!
The children painted and decorated boxes, some adding cardboard pillows for the hedgehogs. Good use of fine motor skills were shown when they were using the scissors to cut holes and holding the paint brushes with brilliant control. The children were very excited to put their houses in the garden once they were dry and helped to make a sign for the hedgehogs aswell.
Lots of love,
Everyone at Leighs xx
