Introducing Autumn!

We have been talking about the seasons and our memories from Spring and Summer. The children shared lovely stories from home. We then talked about the changing weather and the new season Autumn. The children excitedly explored an Autumn treasure basket, looking at, feeling and smelling the natural objects inside together before describing them brilliantly.

Math skills were promoted through talking about the shapes and sizes of the objects and the children initiated counting them together too.
We explored Autumn colours and talked about how the leaves will fall and change into these colours. This led to the children drawing their own Autumn leaves and using our leaf stencils too. This was great mark making and pencil control practice. The sunflowers moved onto exploring the word Autumn and looking closely at the letters. They practiced letter sounds then had a great go at copying them onto their paper. The children really enjoyed using our Montessori movable alphabet and sandpaper letters!
