National Deaf Awareness Week!

07.05.2020

Happy Thursday everyone – we hope you’re all having a good week so far and staying safe!

National Deaf Awareness Week is all about promoting the positive aspects of living with deafness and promoting the importance of social inclusion. It helps support communication for all.¬†Approximately 70,000 people in the UK are born profoundly deaf or become deaf before they can speak. Becoming more ‘deaf aware’ can make a big difference and helps remove social, educational and communication barriers.

Here at Leigh’s we believe ALL children should be valued by society and have the same opportunities as any other child. Our mission is to promote equal opportunities through a wide range of policies and procedures which are reflected in the practice of our setting by our Outstanding staff. We provide EVERY single child with the opportunity to reach their full potential with any support they may need. We pride ourselves on providing a safe environment where children can learn about each others differences and similarities and learn to value each other.

We embrace and celebrate every child’s uniqueness.¬†The children have absolutely loved learning some British sign language this week, a new and exciting way to communicate. We have learnt some of our favourite songs and rhymes, the alphabet and even how to sign our own names!

Lots of love as always!
