PlayDough Fun!

Recently we’ve been creating our own hedgehogs and pumpkins from play dough! The Sweetpeas have shown a great interest in the outdoor environment so we thought we would create our very own!

We made the play dough by helping one another add the ingredients to the bowl before mixing it  to create the dough. We spoke about the colours we used, the texture of the ingredients and also encouraged turn taking!

Once the dough was made, we then sectioned it into smaller amounts for each child to have their own, allowing them to choose whether they wanted brown (hedgehog) or orange (pumpkin). Although we showed the Sweetpeas a demonstration of the finished product, we encouraged them to create their own! Whether they wanted to add the materials to their piece was totally up to them. This supported the children’s independence and also promoted their self esteem as they created their sculpture just how they wanted it.

Play dough is a brilliant source of creativity. It encourages fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, turn taking and promotes self esteem. It is a quick and easy method of endless stimulation!
