Leigh's Nurseries Newcastle

Preparing for Christmas!

This week at nursery we have been preparing for Christmas by making some christingles. Christingles are made all over the world in the run up to Christmas. It started in Germany in 1747 and came to the UK in 1968.
The Sunflowers loved making them and enjoyed talking about each element. We used some picture cards to help the children visualise the item and what it represented. This helped the children to picture something in the form of another object. For example the orange represents the world because it is round and spherical. The children really seemed to understand the meaning for some elements. For example we talked about how the sweets represented all of the animals in the world. Fine motor skills were also used during this activity as the children had to be careful when feeding the raisins onto the sticks.
Lots of love,
Leigh and the team xxxx
