Sunflower ABC’s!

The Sunflowers have been practicing and recognising their letters using our homemade sand. We started off by going through the alphabet identifying the sounds for each letter. The children then independently chose letters to match the Sunflowers before attempting to write them in the sand, either using their fingers or the pencils. This prompted the discussion of how our homemade sand felt using words such as ‘crunchy’.

This activity enabled children to develop their phonic knowledge whilst also encouraging the children to practice developing their fine motor skills using the tripod grip. The children thoroughly enjoyed this activity, exploring the new feeling of our sand, learning some new letters/sounds and playing with the marks that they made with their friends.
