Sunflowers Go Camping!

The sunflowers have shown a great interest in camping so we decided to create our own camping trip!

The common interests of the children promoted strong discussions about what we do when we go camping. The children talked about reading stories by the fire with a tent whilst eating marshmallows. This encouraged the children to create their own stories and promote their literacy skills. They started off by designing their own story covers and thought of a name for their story.

The children then sat and created their own stories in discussions with a member of staff – this supported the children’s literacy development as they formed strong sentences, extending their ideas and giving reasoning for their thoughts using words like ‘because’! The children were super excited all day to experience our camping trip and were amazed when we went into our tent.

We then sat and enjoyed some yummy smores whilst we read each of our stories. The sunflowers did such an incredible job at supporting and encouraging one another to discuss more about their stories and they couldn’t contain their excitement!
