The Sunflowers have been learning all about sustainability and how our carbon foot prints imprint on our world. We have been busy making recycling boxes within our room to encourage the re-use of many household materials that can be upcycled. We also spoke about the plastics and other rubbish that impact negatively on nature and contribute to climate change. The children have thrived taking in this information and using their intuition to create new projects.
We used the slime to hide rubbish inside and following the childrens interests incorporated dinosaurs into the slime and the children then try to remove the rubbish from it, learning in the process the damage that occurs when rubbish is left around our planet.
Sustainability activities provide the children with a sense of responsibility, enabling them to show respect for our natural environment and be participants for change towards a sustainable future.
Another way the children are learning about sustainability is through using our recycled materials to make something new. We shredded our old paper and made it new using a mold and deckle progress. The children loved using the paper they made themselves to make marks. They were interested to see how they could create a fresh piece of paper which can be shredded, made to pulp and dried over and over again.
Lots of love,
Leigh and the team xxx
