It’s Wednesday which means it’s time for a new blog post!
Reading stories is an activity that prepares the children to understand the written word, but also helps them to improve upon their ever expanding language and listening skills. The ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’ book is an all time favourite across ourĀ Newcastle, Heddon-on-the-Wall and Gateshead nurseries. Whenever we read it the children actively start to recognise rhythmic patterns which in turn allows them to recall and anticipate certain events! Through doing this they can respond to what they hear with relevant comments, questions and actions which is just brilliant in terms of their development. Lifelong skills are developed upon also, such as a stronger focus, imagination stimulation and individual creativity – all of which expands their understanding of the big wide world around them.
Because this book in particular goes down so well every time we bring it out to read, we went on our very own bear hunt in one of the local communities surrounding the nurseries. This really enabled the children to visualise the story in real time, allowing them to ask questions and make really clever comments about what was going on around them. Playing co-operatively together as part of a group was such a huge part of this activity as it meant the children could really get stuck in to the story and act out the narrative which was amazing to see!
See you on Friday!
