Why is Outdoor Play important in Early Years?

Here at Leighs we like to promote outdoor play as much as possible no matter what the weather as it’s important for children to experience all weathers. Outdoor play is so important for children as it allows them to develop self confidence, independence and it can also boost their self esteem! Outdoor play can also take a role in helping children become aware of boundaries and also allows little ones to challenge themselves in their play.

Aswell as outdoor play being a positive for a child’s physical health it is also an effective way of boosting a child’s mental health. It gives children ownership of their learning which allows us to follow the interest of each individual child. The children love to connect with nature and explore lots of natural resources within the outdoor environment. We can encourage children to use their imagination with these resources and they’re able to be encouraged to run, jump, climb and explore risky play!
