Happy Friday everyone!
It was World Book Day yesterday meaning our favourite storybooks have been an even bigger focus for us this week! The aim of World Book Day is to celebrate authors, books, illustrators and of course reading! The children have loved exploring classics such as The Hungry Caterpillar and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. It’s been so much fun re-enacting key events from the stories in the garden during play-time! The Hungry Caterpillar is particularly good as the pictures readily engage the children’s attention, involving them in the reading process whilst helping them learn about numbers, days of the week and the time!
We’ve also been busy celebrating Dr Seuss’ birthday, talking about one of our all time favourite books of his called Fox in Sox. The children loved getting creative making their own pictures inspired by the story! The absolute highlight of World Book Day though has got to be the dressing up that takes place – it’s amazing to see their little imaginations run wild as they become lots of different characters from their own favourite stories! Ultimately reading encourages learning in all areas of development including ICT and technology as well as expressive Art and Design. We love to frequently support the children on the nursery iPad’s which actively improves upon all of these skills.
We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
Lots of love,
Everyone at Leighs Nurseries xx
